Programs affiliated with Iowa City elementary schools

The following programs are affiliated with Iowa City elementary schools; although not all programs are a part of the standard school curriculum, it is generally assumed that students who enroll in these courses will be attending the affiliate school.  Fees and additional information about the programs may be obtained by visiting the program websites or by e-mailing the program's contact person.

  •  Classes are divided by language and grade level
  • The program is PTO funded. Students are not asked to pay a fee.

Willowwind School

  • Spanish is a part of the weekly curriculum for students grade preschool-6
  • Their goal is to reach fluency by grade 6.
  • Spanish instruction occurs during regular classroom time and includes thematic instruction with music and drawing.
  • The Willowwind Summer Program offers Spanish language and culture classes for grades K-2.

Confucius Institute Course

  • A collaborative project between The University of Iowa and The Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) and East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai.  For children age 7-12 with parent(s).

  • Cost is $50 tuition fee for 1 child and at least 1 parent a $20 fee is charged for each additional child (please note that enrollment fees are reduced for families qualifying for reduced or free school lunches).  There is an additional $4 material fee for the textbook.

Cedar Rapids Czech School


               
     
 Czech
  • Students ages 6 to 14 learn the Czech language, songs and ethnic traditions at the school, which has operated since 1870.
  • Summer day program in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
  • From June through July, culminating in a performance in July (as of 2012).
